- Free annual credit report:
Consumers are eligible to request their credit report annually free from the three nationwide credit reporting
agencies. You can request a credit report from each of the three credit-reporting agencies at one
time or stagger the request throughout the year. Staggering the request allows consumers to monitor
their credit report three times a year. Simply request your credit report from one credit-reporting
agency, wait four months to request another credit report from a different credit-reporting agency, and
request the last credit report four months later.
The term "annual" is determined on a 12 month rolling basis. For example, if you request your
credit report on December 2, 2004 from Equifax, you’ll be eligible for another free credit report on
December 2, 2005.
Although your credit report is free, there is a fee for your credit score. The fees range from $4 to
$7 depending on the credit-reporting agency.
